The History of White People in America is a musical animated series that looks at race in the United States, in particular how the crafting of the idea of the White race — of whiteness — helped shape the nation’s history. Pierce Freelon is a co-director, writer and composer on the series, an Official Selection of the Tribeca Film Festival in the Animated Shorts category curated by Whoopi Goldberg. The series premiered on PBS and Independent Lens in July of 2020, with new episodes released in 2024.
